Meet one of the most fascinating teas in the world — Kenyan Purple Tea. Grown in the lush highlands of Kenya, this rare variety of Camellia sinensis produces striking purple leaves that brew into a beautifully unique cup with a smooth, mellow flavor and a subtle earthy sweetness.
Purple tea is a relatively new category in the tea world, first discovered growing wild in the Assam region of India and now cultivated commercially in Kenya. Its gorgeous color comes from naturally occurring anthocyanins — the same pigments found in blueberries and red cabbage — making it as visually stunning as it is delicious.
What Makes It Special?
- 💜 Rich in anthocyanins — a class of naturally occurring plant pigments and antioxidants widely studied in nutritional science
- 🌍 Rare & single-origin — sourced directly from the highlands of Kenya, one of the few places in the world where purple tea is grown commercially
- ✨ Smooth, mellow flavor — lighter and less astringent than traditional black or green teas, with a subtle earthy sweetness
- 🍵 Versatile — enjoy it hot or cold; it makes a stunning iced tea straight from the fridge
- 🌿 Eco-conscious loose leaf — no unnecessary waste; string-less and tag-less
Steep 1 teaspoon of loose leaf in hot water (185°F) for 3–4 minutes. Add a loose-leaf mesh strainer for best results. Also delicious cold — brew and refrigerate!
